Canadian Filmmaker's Party —
a truly Canadian celebration
The Canadian Filmmakers Party was an annual celebration produced by The Spoke Club, hosted the night before the beginning of the Toronto International Film Festival each year. In 2012, there was a shifting focus away from Canadian work and filmmakers onto the excitement of internationally acclaimed stars and premiers taking place during the festival.
Willendorf identified the importance of continuing the event when it was up to be cancelled. Through the relationship it had built with The Spoke Club as well other community friends: eTalk, Mongrel Media, Canadian Screen Awards, Willendorf was able champion the event’s legacy and set out to ensure that space and time was made to celebrate homegrown Canadian talent, before Toronto welcomed the world’s creatives on its doorstep.
As a result of passionate work, the team was able to produce a the most impactful edition of th Canadian Filmmakers Party, bringing on new sponsors, reimagining the approach to the event to make it more inclusive, experiential, and reinvigorating the community’s dedication to celebrating Canadian talent first. Hosted by Canadian filmmakers Deepa Mehta and the late Rob Stewart.
Since the 2012 event, the Canadian Filmmakers Party has become a staple stop for industry and talent, and inspired several similar events during the Toronto International Film Festival.
